A slightly different version of this classic at the Pavilion Theatre, Brighton Dome -
from 19th to 21st November 2009 !
The world-famous operetta was written in 1858 with music by Jacques Offenbach, was
intended as a satire of the gods of Greek and Roman antiquity. (Original show poster
shown)
It caused outrage when first presented as French audiences were shocked to see figures
from Classical Antiquity lampooned. 2009 audiences would be hard-pressed to be shocked
about such a thing!
French operetta was intended to be sometimes naughty, risqué and on occasion a little
less than tasteful so hopefully the WMs' production will live up to these guiding
principles!
We are sure that you will enjoy listening to Offenbachs well known music
performed by an enthusiastic and talented cast. Producer - Gary Nock Musical Director -
Michael James
Tickets will be available soon from the Brighton Dome Box Office.
